Today, the cybersecurity world is mourning the loss of a truly remarkable individual, as we pause to honor Matt Stephenson, a trusted colleague, a friend to so many in our industry, and one of our own: a cybersecurity marketer and Member of the Cybersecurity Marketing Society. Matt was a pillar in the cybersecurity community known for his unwavering energy, his deep well of industry knowledge, and warmth to all who knew him.
For those who want to understand just how deeply Matt touched the lives of those around him, we invite you to read Matt’s dear friend Richard Melick’s heartfelt tribute, written in the days after his passing.
Matt held significant roles at renowned cybersecurity organizations, including Forescout Technologies, BlackBerry, Cylance Inc., and Symantec. Beyond his professional achievements, Matt was the voice behind the InSecurity podcast, where he engaged with experts worldwide to shed light on pressing cybersecurity issues. His ability to distill complex topics into accessible conversations made him respected among peers and listeners.
Matt was a familiar face at industry events like Black Hat and others on the conference circuit, where he was known for sharing knowledge and fostering deep connections within cybersecurity. He was known as “Mr. Bowtie” in the Spiceworks community, which wrote a touching post about him.
His passing leaves a void in our community that cannot be filled. We at the Society extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his generosity and wisdom.
Rest in peace, Matt. Your contributions and spirit will never be forgotten.
